Bio

Miguel is a PhD student at the Institut Pasteur working in the Archaeal Virology unit under the supervision of Mart Krupovic. Having studied in his native Barcelona and then in Helsinki, Miguel’s research now focusses on the origins of complex living cells. In his project Miguel works with archaea, one of the three domains of life alongside bacteria and eukaryotes. Some of these single-celled organisms can survive at extreme salt concentrations or temperatures, and can even be found living in volcanoes. Miguel is a keen photographer, and when he’s not in the lab you will likely find him documenting his travels throughout the world on film.
