Tom is a PhD candidate studying cell death and epithelial homeostasis at Institut Pasteur. For Tom, the thrill associated with being a scientist is the potential to be the first person in the world to observe something and share it with the community. This combined with not knowing what it is that you might discover! Tom’s favorite scientist is Thomas Hunt Morgan, whose work with fruit flies determined many rules of genetics which we still rely on today. His favorite tool in the lab is a special type of fruit fly, in which you can trigger cell death by simply shining a blue light on the insects! Tom’s favorite TV show is the sitcom “The Thick of It” and you will be able to pick out his Scottish accent easily from a crow, even more when employing his favourite word “aye”!
